So as you all the know Ohio St. plays Michigan this weekend for a guaranteed spot in the National Championship game, and if you did not know you must not have any access to any type of communication (television, computer, radio, or you live in a van down by the river). Because it is frickin' everywhere and I'm sick of seeing and hearing about it.
I'm not sure if anyone's with me, but I mean they have been advertising and plugging this game for like the past four weeks non-stop. Ever since they became #1 and #2 in the polls, it is all I have been hearing about. ESPN and ABC shows it like every other commercial. Even when I was watching midweek college basketball and football they were interviewing previous players and coaches. Give it a rest. Please.
Jiminey Christmas people! They advertise it like it is the only football game played this year and it is the biggest game history has ever seen. I am not disagreeing that it is not a big game, but to call it a game of the century before it has been played is a bit much; come on.
Look at some of the previous "Game of the Century" games. There is the 1967 USC/UCLA battle of Heisman trophy winners OJ Simpson and Gary Beban; the 1969 Arkansas/Texas matchup of Texas coming from 14 pts down to win the National Championship as declared by Nixon; the 1971 OU/Nebraska matchup as the defending National Champion Cornhuskers came to Norman and ruined the Sooners bid for a National Championship; or the 1993 matchup of Florida St./Notre Dame where College GameDay made their first appearance.
All of these games were not given the title "Game of the Century" until after the game was played. Lets show some love to the other teams that are playing and have a good chance to make it to the National Championship game (ie. USC, Florida, Arkansas, Notre Dame).
Because lets face it, whomever loses this game will not be playing the National Championship game anyways. It will not happen and who would want to see that anyways after seeing it once already. Besides, I think people need to hold back before giving it a title that it's not going to live up to. Ohio St. has an amazing defense and will keep Michigan from scoring.
The final score:
Ohio St. 42
Michigan 10
